Are there restrictions when buying a digital gift card?
You and your friend must have a Steam account and be friends on Steam. You can buy digital gift cards for any user you have on your friends list for at least 3 days. Please note that you cannot use funds you already have in your Steam Wallet to purchase a Digital Gift Card.
What could my friend buy with their gift card?
The digital gift card will be sent to your Steam wallet funds as soon as your friend accepts it. This means your friend can purchase games, microtransactions, or items from the Steam Community Market.
Can I still buy games for my friends?
Of course! Everyone loves personalized gifts. If you know which game your friend wants, you can buy it as a gift from the Steam store. But if you’re not sure what your friend wants for their birthday or holiday, then a Steam gift card might be the best gift. Digital gift cards can be used to pay for part of a friend’s game purchase or to help them earn microtransaction items.
What if my friend lives in another country?
The digital gift card you purchased will automatically be converted into your friend’s currency.
What happens if my friend declines the digital gift card I purchased?
If your friend declines your gift, the purchase will be refunded. If possible, the refund will go back to the original payment method. If the original method is not available, it will be refunded to your Steam wallet.
Will accepting a digital gift card from a friend restrict my access to the Marketplace?
In the unlikely event that accepting a digital gift card will put a Marketplace restriction on your account, we’ll show you a clear warning before you accept it to avoid surprises. If avoiding the restriction is important to you, you can wait for the day mentioned in the warning to pass before accepting the gift. If no such message is displayed, no restrictions will be applied when accepting.
